Even though serious/ life changing injury cases that we have run have resulted in settlements in excess of €3 million money can never compensate for the injuries and loss of enjoyment of life.
However, serious accidents often cause the need for specialised long term medical care, physical therapy, and psychological support which may be expensive.
Because of an overall limit on compensation for “pain and suffering” at €550,000.00 the rest of the compensation* must relate to matters such as loss of earnings (into the future), nursing care (into the future), rehabilitation, aids and appliances and prosthetics.

Types of catastrophic personal injury claims*
Serious accidents often cause long term, lifelong impacts for the injured and their family. A survivor may have basic cognitive and emotional problems. – Road traffic accident
Our client, a thirty-five-year-old mother, was involved in a head on collision when another driver drove on the wrong side of the road. She never regained consciousness following the accident and was on life support. After leaving hospital she was placed in long term residential care with significant nursing care necessary. We issued High Court proceedings in the case and the main elements of the case were her loss of earnings (for thirty years into the future) and nursing care (until her date of death). The case settled for €2.5 million, and all her legal costs were paid by the other driver’s insurance.
– Accident at work
Our client was working on a construction site when a crane dropped its load on him causing very serious injury and leaving him paralysed for the rest of his life. We brought a case against his employers, the crane operator, and the main site contractor. Our experts prepared Rehabilitation Reports, Nursing Care Reports, Reports into the Aids and Appliances that our client would need. As he was a relatively young man, we had a significant future loss of earnings claim and our Actuary calculated these figures for us. Eventually we settled this case for €3 million and our client was able to buy a suitably modified home to live in with his mother who cared for him from the date of the accident and continues to care for him to this day.
– Accident at work
Our client lost his leg in a serious accident at work when a crane dropped its load on him. We have used a Consultant Litigation Engineer to establish who was to blame for the accident as the Defendants refused to accept liability. In addition to a Rehabilitation Consultant, Nursing Consultant and Prosthetic Expert we have engaged an Architect to prepare plans for modifying our clients home to suit his much-changed needs.
