On 22–23 May 2026, Murray Flynn Solicitors proudly participated as an official sponsor of the II Symposium of Polish Women in Ireland, a major community and educational event hosted at Trinity College Dublin.

The symposium brought together academics, entrepreneurs, legal professionals, psychologists, educators, artists, community leaders and members of the Polish diaspora from across Ireland for two days of discussions focused on migration, integration, women’s wellbeing, education, identity and community engagement.

The event took place under the patronage of the Polish Embassy in Dublin and was attended by distinguished guests including Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Dublin, Artur Michalski, Consul of the Republic of Poland Michał Wybirał, representatives of the Honorary Consulate of Poland in Limerick, former Polish Ambassador Anna Sochańska, members of the Polish Parliament, artists, academics and community representatives.

Representing Murray Flynn Solicitors during the first day of the symposium were Shane O’Brien and Lucian Tătulescu, who attended as guests and supporters of the event.

Supporting the Polish Community in Ireland

According to Ireland’s Central Statistics Office, Polish nationals continue to represent one of the largest migrant communities in Ireland, following the significant wave of migration after Poland joined the European Union in 2004. Legal awareness, access to information and understanding of Irish systems remain essential factors in helping migrants integrate safely and confidently into Irish society.

This was one of the central themes explored during the symposium.

On 23 May 2026, Monika Baranowska Forrest of Murray Flynn Solicitors was invited as a speaker during the symposium’s “Law and Education” section, where she delivered a presentation titled:

“The Impact of Legal Knowledge on the Process of Adaptation and Integration during Emigration.”

Her presentation explored how understanding Irish law can help migrants feel safer, more confident and better supported while navigating life abroad.

Legal Awareness and Integration

During the presentation, Monika Baranowska Forrest highlighted how knowledge of legal rights and obligations can help members of the Polish community navigate important areas such as:

  • workplace rights and workplace accidents,
  • road traffic accidents,
  • personal injury claims,
  • social welfare entitlements,
  • family law,
  • healthcare access,
  • housing and tenancy matters,
  • sexual harassment in the workplace,
  • civic participation and local engagement.

The presentation also emphasised the importance of knowing where to seek support in difficult situations, including organisations such as Citizens Information, Crosscare, Cairde and Women’s Aid.

Speaking during the symposium, Monika Baranowska Forrest explained:

“Knowledge of the law gives people a sense of security, confidence and empowerment. When people understand their rights, they are more likely to seek help, make informed decisions and actively participate in society.”

The presentation also highlighted the importance of providing access to justice and legal advice in the Polish language, helping members of the Polish community in Ireland navigate legal and administrative processes with greater confidence and security.

Personal Injury and Workplace Accident Awareness

As a law firm specialising in personal injury claims in Dublin, Murray Flynn Solicitors also addressed practical legal scenarios frequently affecting migrants and workers in Ireland.

Examples discussed during the presentation included:

  • road traffic accidents,
  • workplace accidents,
  • occupational injuries,
  • public liability incidents,
  • and workplace sexual harassment cases.

Attendees received practical guidance on what steps to take following an accident, including:

  • seeking medical attention,
  • documenting evidence,
  • reporting incidents,
  • gathering witness details,
  • and obtaining legal advice promptly.

The presentation stressed that legal education in a migrant’s native language can play a major role in preventing exploitation and helping individuals feel safer and more confident while living abroad.

A Broader Conversation About Women, Migration and Identity

The symposium programme featured a wide range of discussions and expert panels covering:

  • women’s mental health in migration,
  • entrepreneurship among Polish women in Ireland,
  • bilingual identity,
  • volunteering,
  • education,
  • literature and culture,
  • social integration,
  • and women’s leadership in diaspora communities.

The event included academics from Poland and Ireland, community activists, psychologists, educators and public speakers, reflecting the growing importance of conversations surrounding migration and identity in modern Irish society.
